Job Description

The YWCA Metro Vancouver Digital Literacy Trainer will be primarily responsible for delivering digital literacy workshops and one-to-one coaching. The role will also include resolving basic technical issues via telephone or written correspondence via email or other electronic media while working with the ticketing system. The role will also provide digital literacy training, both in person and online. The role will work collaboratively with project staff, teammates and the organization’s technical support team. The Digital Literacy Trainer will be required to adhere to project policies and procedures, troubleshoot technical issues, have efficient IT documentation skills, be comfortable with public speaking, providing in-person training, handle interaction resolution and escalation, and provide a high level of customer support to clients and staff.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Teaches specialized small group class sessions on digital literacy including use of hardware and software (classroom and web-based learning).

  • Provides individual coaching in areas where students struggle. Manages a multi-level online learning environment combined with in-person coaching and coordination of a computer lab for use by students.

  • Digital literacy topics include hardware and software use of common digital tools such as internet browsers, email programs, social media and productivity software. Instruction will also have a focus on comprehending, evaluating, and acting on information found online such as news sources, public health information, civic participation information from government sources

  • Provide one-to-one coaching virtually, over the phone or in person

  • Designs and prepares curricula and training course outlines, and selects or develops instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other materials.

Other Duties and Expectations:

  • Assists in compiling data and preparing reports

  • Assists with preparing articles for publication such as newsletter and blog articles.

  • Maintain and enrich your expertise in computer science/digital literacy

  • Coordinate workshop plans with program staff to maximize possibilities for integrated, learning that is practical in application

  • Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment;

  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from peers, students and management;

  • Fluency in two or more languages is an asset

  • Other duties as required

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
